Hemel Hempstead Lions, supported by other local Lions Clubs, run a very sucessful secondhand book shop in the Marlowes Shopping Centre in Hemel Hempstead. Thanks to a Herculean effort all the racking and books were moved out and the old shop handed back to the Landlord on Thursday night.
Before any books could be loaded in the new shop, the racking had to be moved out and re-installed with plenty of bracing to ensure complete safety.
Why not come along?
Although it’s slightly smaller there will still be a large selection of books with most priced at £1 for hardbacks, 50p for paperbacks and 20p for children’s books
The shop turns over about 1500 books per week and all profits go to charity.
New stock is always wanted so why not have a clear out and bring along some of those books you no longer want.
As an extra treat come along on a Wednesday when the shop is operated by Tring Lions

Residents across Garston and Watford have been treated to a trip to the seaside, courtesy of Watford Lions.
Taking advantage of the sunshine on Sunday, July 3, four members of the Watford group took 34 senior citizens to Clacton-on-Sea.
According to organisers they enjoyed fish and chips and took in the sights and sounds of the seaside.
Cheryl Peacock, Watford Lions representative, said: “We had a great time and the sun shone all day long.
“The Lions Club of Watford paid for the coach and gave each person £5 towards their lunch.
“We try to do this trip every year taking people from various local areas.
“It gives some of our older residents a chance to get out and about.”
Below are some comments recieved from some of the Watford residents who enjoyed the trip.
Watford Lions will inaugurate their new president this evening.
Cheryl Peacock, who has acted a club secretary for the past year, will be the 42nd president and third female to take the role.
She was voted to the position by other members and follows in the footsteps of former president Michael Chapple.
Ms Peacock, of Little How Croft, Abbots Langley, said: “I was really chuffed when I found out I had been chosen for president.
“I’m really very proud, especially as there have been so few female presidents of the club.
“The role promises a lot of challenges, but will be an exciting one.
“I don’t imagine it will veer too far away from my job as secretary, I’ll still have lots of organising to do.
“The only difference will be that I’ll get some of the perks as well.”
Watford Lions, which has been running for more than 40 years, is a charitable organisation and has raised thousands of pounds for local groups and clubs.
Members annually host the Abbots Langley Carnival, organise champagne raffles, day trips to Clacton-on-Sea, and fish and chip suppers for elderly residents.
According to Ms Peacock, one of her first tasks in her year-long role will be organising and bringing members together.
She said: “Watford Lions has become disorganised and a bit fragmented, but I am hoping to change that.
“We provide a lot of fun and beneficial activities to people in Watford and surrounding areas and I am determined we continue to do so.
“We are also on the look out for volunteers to help us with our fish and chip suppers – working alongside the Watford Lions can be very rewarding and enriching.”
